1000 Museum
One Thousand Museum Miami, often written as 1000 Museum, is one of the most recognizable luxury condominium towers in Downtown Miami. Located at 1000 Biscayne Boulevard, directly across from Museum Park, the building stands approximately 707 feet tall with 62 stories. Completed in 2019, the tower contains 84 luxury residences, making it one of the most exclusive residential buildings in the city.
The building was designed by internationally renowned architect
Zaha Hadid, whose architectural firm
Zaha Hadid Architects is known for creating innovative, futuristic structures around the world. One Thousand Museum is particularly notable because it is the first residential skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
The tower was developed by
Gregg Covin and
Louis Birdman, two Miami developers who envisioned creating a landmark residential building that would stand apart from other luxury condominiums in South Florida.
A defining architectural element of One Thousand Museum is its distinctive exoskeleton structure. Instead of hiding the building’s structural support inside the walls, the design places a reinforced concrete structural frame on the exterior of the tower. This exposed structural system forms a series of curved lines running vertically along the building, giving it a sculptural appearance while also providing strength against wind loads common in coastal environments. Because the structural support is largely external, many residences have wide open interior spaces without interior support columns.
Residences in 1000 Museum Miami include half-floor units, full-floor residences, duplex townhomes, and penthouses. Interior sizes range from roughly 4,600 square feet to over 10,000 square feet, depending on the layout. Many residences feature large terraces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and views of Biscayne Bay, Downtown Miami, and Miami Beach.
The building also offers a range of amenities designed for luxury living. These include a wellness spa, fitness center, indoor aquatic center, private movie theater, sky lounge, and concierge services. One of the most unusual features is the private rooftop helipad, which allows residents to arrive directly to the building by helicopter—something rarely permitted for residential towers in the United States.
Architect Zaha Hadid is considered one of the most influential architects of the modern era. In 2004, she became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in architecture. Her work is known for fluid shapes, sweeping curves, and the use of advanced engineering techniques to create structures that appear almost sculptural.
Some of her well-known projects around the world include the
London Aquatics Centre, built for the 2012 Olympic Games, the
Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan, the
MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, and the
Guangzhou Opera House in China. Each of these buildings reflects her signature approach to architecture that blends art, geometry, and advanced design technology.
Construction of One Thousand Museum began in 2015, and the building was completed shortly after Hadid’s passing in 2016, making it one of the final projects associated with her during her lifetime. Today, the tower remains one of the most architecturally distinctive residential buildings in Miami and a major landmark in the city’s skyline.
Because of its unique design, limited number of residences, and association with Zaha Hadid, One Thousand Museum Miami is widely regarded as both a luxury residential property and an important example of contemporary architecture in South Florida.
