Murano at Portofino – The Original Icon of South of Fifth Luxury Living
Murano at Portofino was one of the first ultra-luxury residential towers to break ground in the South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood of Miami Beach—and it played a pivotal role in redefining the area into one of the most elite enclaves in South Florida. Completed in 2001, the tower stands 37 stories high and offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay, Fisher Island, and the glittering Miami skyline. With its curvilinear design and sleek glass exterior, Murano at Portofino remains a timeless fixture in the Miami Beach skyline.
This visionary project was brought to life by The Related Group in partnership with Thomas Kramer, both of whom were instrumental in the early transformation of SoFi. Related Group, under Jorge Pérez, is synonymous with high-end development across Miami and has consistently delivered some of the most prestigious properties in the city. Murano at Portofino was one of their first major luxury waterfront towers and helped set the tone for future projects like Murano Grande, Icon South Beach, and Apogee.
Architecturally, the building was designed by Sieger Suarez Architects, a name now well known for shaping the skyline of South Florida. Their concept for Murano at Portofino was ahead of its time—combining modernist curves, clean lines, and functional layouts to maximize water views and natural light. The flow-through unit designs, generous terraces, and floor-to-ceiling windows helped elevate the standard of luxury living in Miami Beach when it was first introduced.
Landscape design was handled by EDSA, a global firm known for integrating natural elements into urban environments. At Murano at Portofino, the landscaping was thoughtfully designed to echo the serenity of its bayfront setting. Lush palm trees, tropical flora, and quiet pathways lead to a private bayfront beach club—a signature feature of the building. The outdoor areas feel like a boutique resort, creating an intimate and elegant ambiance for residents.
Murano at Portofino offers a mix of one- to four-bedroom residences and penthouses, many of which are generously sized and designed for both privacy and entertaining. Interiors feature high ceilings, open kitchens, marble baths, and large master suites with walk-in closets. The building’s amenities reflect the luxury standard: a two-story fitness center and spa, tennis courts, private beach club, valet, concierge, and 24-hour security.
What makes Murano at Portofino special, aside from its architecture and luxury, is its location at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach. It’s tucked away in a quieter, more private corner of SoFi while still offering instant access to world-class restaurants, beaches, parks, and the marina. It’s where city energy meets oceanfront calm—making it one of the most desirable addresses in all of Miami.
