Miami Freedom Park, the ambitious project by Inter Miami CF, is gearing up for its highly anticipated opening in Fall 2025. Spearheaded by owner David Beckham, the development aims to revolutionize soccer in the United States and become a symbol of commitment to both the sport and the city of Miami.
Beckham’s vision for Miami Freedom Park includes a state-of-the-art 25,000-seat stadium, a 750-room hotel, a soccer village, extensive green spaces, and the City of Miami’s new headquarters. This multifaceted project will offer the community a wide range of amenities and recreational opportunities, including public parks, a tech hub, restaurants, shops, soccer fields, and more.
One of the remarkable aspects of Miami Freedom Park is that the club’s ownership entirely privately funds it without utilizing any city dollars. The project received overwhelming support from residents of the City of Miami, with over 60% of voters approving it in a referendum held in November 2019. This endorsement signaled the residents’ desire for the city to negotiate and execute a lease for the proposed land, making the dream of Miami Freedom Park a reality.
Upon approval by the City of Miami Commission on April 28th, 2022, Miami Freedom Park became a major milestone in the city’s sports development. The project will bring economic benefits and prioritize fair market value rent and living wages for all onsite employees. It is projected to contribute over $40 million in annual tax revenue to the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Furthermore, Miami Freedom Park is expected to create approximately 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, catalyzing growth and prosperity.
Excitement is building as site work permits have recently been issued for the property where Inter Miami’s stadium is planned. The permits, issued by Miami’s Building Department, cover excavation, piles, site improvement, and soil work. Downrite Engineering has been listed as the contractor for these permits. While demolition and tree permits are still under review, the project progresses steadily.
Jorge Mas, the managing owner of Inter Miami, expressed his optimism, stating that they expect the green light to begin construction “any day now.” With work expected to commence in the coming weeks, the new stadium’s target opening date is the summer or early fall of 2025.
Miami Freedom Park is poised to become a landmark destination for sports enthusiasts and the entire Miami community. With its innovative design, diverse amenities, and commitment to the city, this project promises to elevate the soccer experience while providing a vibrant public space for all to enjoy.
